Community

Subject intent

At Bolsover Church of England Junior School, we are an inclusive community. We aim for every child to grow and flourish and gain a strong sense of wellbeing and pride in the community they are a part of. In our curriculum, we believe that happiness, as well as mental and physical wellbeing, are fundamental in the roots of our children’s growth. Through the community work we carry out, we make links with businesses, organisations and charitable bodies, developing the children’s appreciation of their contribution to enhancing the lives of, not only themselves, but others within Bolsover and beyond.

Subject Leader

The subject co-ordinator for our community work in school is Miss Sophie Spencer, who can be contacted on 01246 822324, or via our school email at info@bolsover-jun.derbyshire.sch.uk.

Our school gardens project

This year, we have teamed up with Freedom Community Project to develop our school grounds and benefit our community. The team at Freedom are working alongside us to grow fresh produce in our gardens to help their charity and get our children involved in learning some great life skills. We are going to be learning about the growing process from planting through to eating and the children are going to be a key part in this - getting outside and getting 'dug in'!

The children will plant, care for, harvest and enjoy their produce helping us to care more about what we eat and to be thankful. We will have some fun theme days coming up as we move through the project.

Stay tuned for more pictures and to see what the children think!

NHS Careers Week

In school, the children are learning about the NHS with our careers week (March 9th, 10th and 11th). We will find out about all the different job roles and what skills are needed to work for the NHS. We will be zooming in to a Doctor to find out more about their job and challenging our children to enter a ‘Thank You NHS’ competition.

Please see the video below to find out more information and check back for photos after our careers week!
